The SAHPRA Internship Programme for 2026/2027 provides six internship positions designed to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge in a critical area of public health. Health Products Authorisations Unit
This unit is offering five internship positions. Interns here will likely be involved in the processes related to approving and authorizing health products, ensuring they meet all necessary regulatory requirements before they can be made available to the public. This involves detailed review and administrative tasks.
Inspectorate and Regulatory Compliance Unit
One internship position is available within this unit. This role will focus on ensuring that health products and the companies that produce them adhere to South African regulations. Interns may assist in monitoring compliance, conducting inspections, and supporting enforcement activities.
Eligibility and Requirements
To be considered for the SAHPRA Internship Programme, applicants must meet specific criteria. Firstly, candidates must be South African citizens. They also need to be unemployed graduates who have never participated in an internship program before. A Matric certificate is a fundamental requirement, alongside a National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree. The qualification must be in Natural Sciences, Health Sciences, or a related field, and it needs to be at NQF Level 6 or NQF Level 7, recognized by SAQA. For those with foreign qualifications, a SAQA evaluation certificate is necessary.
Key Responsibilities During the Internship
Interns will be actively involved in supporting SAHPRA’s administrative and regulatory functions. Their duties may include managing and allocating applications, responding to queries, and updating various databases and tracking systems. They will also assist in capturing evaluation reports, monitoring the workloads of evaluators, and tracking the status of applications. Furthermore, interns will contribute to compiling statistics and reports, supporting compliance checks, and assisting during internal and external audits. Liaising with internal stakeholders, managing records, and supporting workflow administration are also part of the expected responsibilities.
Internship Duration and Stipend
The SAHPRA Internship Programme is designed as a full-time, 12-month commitment. Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend of R16,666.66. This financial support aims to assist interns while they gain valuable professional experience.
