About the SHRA Compliance Internship Programme

The SHRA is a public entity under the Department of Human Settlements. Its main role is to regulate and promote affordable rental housing for people with low to middle incomes across South Africa. This internship is part of SHRA’s Young Graduate Programme. It specifically targets graduates from universities and universities of technology. The goal is to give them hands-on experience in a compliance and regulatory setting.

Internship Details

The internship is for the position of Compliance Officer Intern. It is within the Compliance, Audit and Risk (CAR) department. The intern will report to the Compliance Manager. The internship is based in Johannesburg, Gauteng, and will last for 24 months. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of R11 172.49. The reference number for this internship is COM/2026/2027.

Key Learning Areas

During the internship, successful candidates will gain practical experience in several key areas. These include compliance monitoring, where they will learn to observe and report on adherence to regulations. They will also be involved in compliance information management and reporting, handling data and creating necessary reports. Furthermore, interns will provide compliance support services, assisting the department in its daily operations. Finally, they will get exposure to regulatory enforcement processes, understanding how regulations are upheld.

Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for this internship, applicants must meet specific criteria. They need to have completed their Matric or Grade 12 certificate. Additionally, they must hold a three-year National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Business Management, or Auditing. The qualification must be at an NQF Level 7. Essential computer literacy skills are also required. Applicants should possess a strong attention to detail and good interpersonal and communication skills. A Certificate in Compliance Management is considered an added advantage. No prior experience is required for this role.

Who Should Apply?

This internship is open to South African citizens who are currently unemployed. Applicants must be younger than 35 years of age. It is essential that candidates are available for the full 24-month duration of the internship. Meeting all the specified qualification requirements is also a must.
