Sekhukhune Development Agency offers MerSETA apprenticeships for 2026 that can help young people start careers in skilled trades. These programs focus on diesel mechanics and recognition for experienced workers. If you live in South Africa and want training with pay, now is the time to apply.

Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship Programme

This program trains people to become diesel mechanics over 36 months. You will earn an Occupational Certificate in Diesel Mechanic and get a stipend of R3 000 each month. There are 28 spots open for unemployed youth.

Who Can Apply

You must be a South African citizen aged 18 to 35 and currently unemployed. Your education needs to include Matric with Mathematics, or N2, NCV Level 3 or higher with trade theory subjects.

Documents Needed

Prepare an application letter, full CV, certified ID copy no older than three months, and certified qualification copies from the same period.

Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL)

Experienced workers can get formal certification through ARPL. Trades include Electrician, Motor Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, and Welding. This path confirms skills you already have from work.

Who Qualifies

Be a South African citizen aged 25 or older with at least three years of experience in the trade. There are 20 spots for unemployed artisans and 4 for employed ones.

Documents Needed

Submit an application letter, CV, certified ID and qualifications (recent copies), a service letter if employed, and proof of three years’ experience on company letterhead.
