Internship Details: Duration and Stipend

The Graduate Internship Programme runs for a period of 24 months, providing a substantial amount of time for interns to immerse themselves in their roles and learn effectively. During this period, interns will receive a monthly stipend of R8,174.78. This financial support helps cover living expenses while participants focus on their professional development.

Available Internship Opportunities and Required Qualifications

The Department of Health has a wide range of internship positions available, catering to various fields of study. Each position requires a specific Diploma (NQF 6) or, in some cases, an LLB Degree.

Human Resources Management and Development Internship

There are four posts available for those with a Diploma in Human Resources Management or Human Resources Development. This role focuses on the people aspect of the department, dealing with staff recruitment, training, and development.

Organisational Development Internship

One post is open for an Organisational Development intern. The required qualification is a Diploma in Management Services, Operations Management, or Production Management. This area involves improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s structure and processes.

Employment Relations Internship

A single position is available for an Employment Relations intern, requiring a Diploma in Labour Relations. This role deals with the relationship between the department and its employees, focusing on fair labor practices and dispute resolution.

Financial Management and Accounting Internship

Three positions are open for those with a Diploma in Financial Management or Accounting. These interns will be involved in managing the department’s finances, ensuring accurate record-keeping and adherence to financial regulations.

Supply Chain Management Internship

With four posts available, this internship is ideal for graduates with a Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Public Management, Purchasing, or Transport Management. Interns will learn about the procurement and distribution of goods and services for the department.

Internal Audit Internship

Three internship opportunities exist in Internal Audit, requiring a Diploma in Internal Auditing or Risk Management. These interns will be responsible for reviewing departmental operations to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.

Information Communication and Technology Internship

Four posts are available for those with a Diploma in Computer Science or Information Technology. These interns will support the department’s IT infrastructure, systems, and digital services.

Communication Internship

Two positions are open for Communication interns, requiring a Diploma in Journalism, Marketing and Communication, or Communication. This role involves managing internal and external communications for the department.

Legal Services Internship

Three internship opportunities are available within Legal Services, requiring an LLB Degree. These interns will assist the legal team with various legal matters concerning the department.

Office of the Director-General Internship

Two posts are available in the Office of the Director-General, requiring a Diploma in Management, Business Management, Administration, Public Management, Office Management, or a related administration qualification. This offers a broad administrative experience at a high level within the department.

General Requirements for Applicants

To be eligible for any of these internship positions, applicants must meet several criteria. They must be unemployed South African graduates who have completed Grade 12 (NQF 4). Crucially, they must hold the specific qualification required for the internship they are applying for and must not have participated in a previous internship program. A genuine interest in gaining public service work experience is also essential.
