Minimum Requirements

The minimum requirements vary depending on the trade. Generally, applicants need to meet specific educational criteria.

• For Electrical Apprenticeship: Engineering Science or full N2 Engineering with four subjects, including trade theory. Alternatively, a technical trade theory programme quality assured by a SETA and considered equivalent to NQF Level 3, or a relevant Engineering NC(V) Certificate with seven subjects at NQF Level 3. Technical Grade 11 with Mathematics, Science, a language, and a relevant theory subject is also accepted. A relevant N6 Certificate or National Technical Diploma is also suitable.
• For Plumbing Apprenticeship: An appropriate N2 Engineering qualification with relevant trade theory, a SETA quality-assured technical programme equivalent to NQF Level 3, relevant Engineering NC(V), Technical Grade 11, or an appropriate N6/National Technical Diploma.
• For Bricklaying Apprenticeship: Relevant N2 Engineering studies, qualifying SETA technical programmes, Engineering NC(V), Technical Grade 11, or an appropriate N6/National Technical Diploma.
• For Motor Mechanic Apprenticeship: An appropriate N2 Engineering programme with relevant trade theory, or another recognised technical route including relevant Engineering NC(V), Technical Grade 11, N6, or a National Technical Diploma.
• For Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship: Technical Grade 12 with Mathematics, or a full N2 Engineering with relevant subjects and Diesel/Motor Trade Theory, or an N3 Engineering with the relevant subjects and Diesel Mechanic Trade Theory.

All applicants must be unemployed South African youth.
