Dis-Chem Dispensary Support Learnerships 2026: Requirements and Applications
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering Dispensary Support Learnerships for 2026. These programs target unemployed young people in South Africa who want to start a career in pharmacy. If you have Grade 12 and meet other basic needs, this could be your chance to train as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
About Dis-Chem Pharmacies
Dis-Chem Pharmacies started in 1978. It has grown into one of South Africa’s top chains for pharmacy, beauty, and health products. The company runs stores with professional services, in-store clinics, and easy access to care. They focus on quality and helping customers stay healthy.
Details of the Learnership Program
This learnership trains you to become a Basic Pharmacist Assistant. You will get hands-on experience in a real pharmacy. Under a registered pharmacist’s watch, you will learn to handle medicines and follow rules. The program includes the Basic Pharmacist Assistant Course. It lasts on a fixed-term contract. If you finish well and register with the South African Pharmacy Council, you might get a full-time job.
Main Job Duties
In the role, you will help with several tasks each day. These include selling Schedule 1 medicines and preparing non-sterile ones. You will unpack stock, set up displays, and keep the dispensary organized. Other duties cover reading prescriptions with guidance, picking and packing meds, and checking labels. You will track stock levels, watch expiry dates, and answer patient questions. You may also help with chronic meds for conditions like HIV or cancer, and share basic health tips. All work follows pharmacy laws and store rules.
Entry Requirements
You need a Grade 12 certificate to apply. Your marks must include Pure Mathematics and Physical Science or Life Science, with an average of at least 50%. You must agree to complete the full pharmacist assistant course. No prior experience is listed, but you should be ready for pharmacy work.
Skills You Need
Good candidates show strong communication in English and another language. They manage time well and handle busy shifts. Pay close attention to details to avoid mistakes. Customer service skills help with patient needs, and problem-solving keeps things smooth. Work well in a team, stay professional, and use basic computers and math.
