About the UN Women Programme Support Internships

The UN Women EntreprenHER Programme Support Internships are designed to provide valuable hands-on experience for individuals interested in community development and women’s economic empowerment. The programme is implemented in partnership with the Local Economic Development units of the Blouberg and Musina Local Municipalities. Interns will work closely with municipal officials, trainers, entrepreneurs, and community stakeholders, supervised by the EntreprenHER Programme Analyst. This role offers a chance to contribute to meaningful initiatives that support income security and economic independence for women entrepreneurs.

About the EntreprenHER Programme

The EntreprenHER Programme, funded by the De Beers Group since 2018, is implemented by the UN Women South Africa Country Office. It focuses on supporting women-owned micro-enterprises through a range of interventions. These include business development training, digital literacy, mentorship, market access support, and small grants. The current phase aims to support 1,500 low-income women entrepreneurs across Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa.

Available Internship Opportunities

There are two Programme Support Intern positions available:

  • Programme Support Intern (Blouberg Local Municipality)
  • Programme Support Intern (Musina Local Municipality)

What the Internship Offers

Successful interns will gain practical experience and develop skills in several key areas:

  • Structured administrative and logistical support for programme activities.
  • Assistance with event preparation, including training sessions, mentorship meetings, and exhibitions.
  • Experience in maintaining programme files, updating contact lists, and managing activity schedules.
  • Exposure to data collection, capturing programme information, and updating beneficiary records.
  • Support for programme visibility and communication activities.
  • Opportunities to coordinate with UN Women, local municipalities, trainers, entrepreneurs, and community stakeholders.
  • Exposure to monitoring and data management processes.
  • Development of communication skills in English and local languages.

Programme Duration and Location

The internship programme has a duration of six months. The duty stations are the Blouberg and Musina Local Municipalities in the Limpopo Province, South Africa.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following educational and eligibility criteria:

  • Completed university or TVET studies in fields such as Entrepreneurship, Business Studies, Development Studies, Social Studies, Public Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Must meet at least one of these conditions:
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate programme.
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree.
  • Have graduated with a university degree within the previous two years.
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship that is part of a degree programme.

Language Requirements

Applicants must possess excellent written and spoken communication skills in:

  • English.
  • Sepedi and/or Xivhenda (Xitsonga).

Strong local language ability is important for effective engagement with community participants and municipal officials.

  • Programme coordination support skills.

  • Data collection and basic data management ability.
