In October 1987, Holomisa forced the resignation and exile of Transkei Prime Minister George Matanzima, and in December 1987, Holomisa deposed Matanzima\u2019s replacement, Prime Minister Stella Sigcau.<\/p>\n

From 1987 to 1994, Holomisa was the leader of Transkei\u2019s administration, after which Transkei was reintegrated into the \u201cmodern\u201d South Africa.<\/p>\n

Holomisa was elected to the African National Congress\u2019s National Executive Committee in 1994 and served as South Africa\u2019s Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism.<\/p>\n

He was suspended from the ANC on September 30, 1996, after appearing before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.<\/p>\n
