Veronica Mente (born 24 September 1978) is a South African politician who is currently serving as the Chairperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) since her election in December 2019.<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n

She started her career as a security guard for the former mayor of Cape Town. In Khayelitsha, she was a \u201cbarefoot prosecutor\u201d who aided workers. Mente was then a volunteer at the Khayelitsha-based Labour Community Advice Media and Education Centre (LAMEC).<\/p>\n

Veronica Mente joined the EFF shortly after it was formed. In 2014, she was elected to the House of Commons.<\/p>\n

She was re-elected to the House of Commons for a second term in May 2019. She is an Alternate Member of the Standing Committee on the Auditor-General and a member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts as of June 2019. In September of this year, she was named to the Disciplinary Committee.<\/p>\n

She is also a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa, having taken office in May 2014.<\/p>\n
