Who Can Apply?

To be considered for the Nkangala District Municipality Bursary, applicants must meet specific criteria. They must be South African citizens between 17 and 35 years old. A key requirement is that applicants must reside within the Nkangala District Municipality area in Mpumalanga. This includes residents from the local municipalities of Dr JS Moroka, Emakhazeni, Emalahleni, Steve Tshwete, Thembisile Hani, or Victor Khanye. Applicants should also come from a historically disadvantaged background and demonstrate financial need.

Academic Requirements

Applicants must have completed Matric or be currently in their final year of Matric. They must be studying or plan to study full-time towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the approved fields at a recognised and accredited public institution. This includes universities, universities of technology, and TVET colleges.

Students already enrolled at a university must have achieved at least a 60% overall average for their 2026 academic year. For students enrolled at a TVET college, a minimum of a 50% overall average for the 2026 academic year is required.

Financial Need Requirement

A crucial aspect of this bursary is the demonstration of financial need. The total household income of the applicant’s family must not exceed R180,000 per year. Successful applicants will also be required to enter into a contractual agreement with the municipality.

Required Application Documents

Applicants must prepare and submit a completed bursary application form along with several supporting documents. These include a certified copy of your South African ID, academic records, proof of household income, and proof of residence.

If you are currently in Matric, you need to submit your Grade 11 final results and your latest Matric results. If you have already completed Matric, provide your Matric certificate. Current university or TVET college students must submit their most recent academic record on the institution’s letterhead. Proof of acceptance at a tertiary institution, if available, and a motivational letter are also required.
