Kouga Municipality Internships 2026: Finance and Electro-Mechanical Opportunities
Kouga Municipality is offering valuable internship programs for unemployed youth and graduates in South Africa. These opportunities are available in the Finance Department and the Electro-Mechanical Department, providing practical experience in key municipal functions. Finance Internship Programme 2026
The Finance Internship Programme is a three-year program designed to expose interns to various aspects of public sector finance. Successful candidates will receive a salary of R120,000 per annum. This program aims to develop skills in areas such as public sector procurement, understanding the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), and best practices in financial management.
Requirements for Finance Interns:
- A relevant NQF Level 6 or NQF Level 7 qualification in a finance-related field. This includes qualifications in Accounting, Financial Management, Public Finance, Economics, Risk Management, and Auditing.
- Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential.
- Good time management skills and the capacity to work effectively under pressure are required.
- Strong communication skills, computer literacy (especially in Excel), and a keen attention to detail are necessary.
- Proficiency in at least two of the official languages of Kouga Municipality (Afrikaans, English, and Xhosa) is mandatory.
Training and Exposure Areas:
Interns in the Finance Department will gain hands-on experience in:
- Public sector procurement processes.
- The Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA 56 of 2003) and related legislation.
- Financial best practices and Treasury Regulations.
- Negotiation, planning, and organizing skills.

Electro-Mechanical Department Internship 2026
The Electro-Mechanical Department offers an 18-month internship program with a monthly stipend of R4,000. This program is focused on providing practical experience in electrical and mechanical engineering fields. Applicants must be computer literate and possess good communication skills.
Available Fields of Study and Requirements:
- Electrical Engineering: This is an 18-month Experiential Learning program. Applicants need a Curriculum Vitae, an N6 Certificate, and a Placement Letter from their tertiary institution. There are 7 posts available.
- Mechanical Engineering: Similar to electrical engineering, this is an 18-month Experiential Learning program. Required documents include a Curriculum Vitae, an N6 Certificate, and a Placement Letter from the tertiary institution. There are 2 posts available.
- Mechanic Qualification: This 18-month Experiential Learning program requires a Curriculum Vitae, a Mechanic Trade Test Certificate, and a Placement Letter from the tertiary institution. There are 2 posts available.
General Requirements for Electro-Mechanical Interns:
- Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old.
- Good communication skills are necessary.
- Proficiency in at least two of the official languages of Kouga Municipality (Afrikaans, English, and Xhosa) is required.
Internship Agreement and Required Documents
Successful candidates will be required to sign an internship agreement along with an employment contract. This agreement ensures commitment to the program, including full participation in training and workplace assignments, and adherence to municipal policies.
