  • Boilermaker: This trade involves working with metal to construct, assemble, and repair boilers, tanks, and other large vessels. It requires precision and a strong understanding of metal fabrication techniques.
  • Welder: Welders join metal parts together using heat and specialized equipment. This role is critical in the construction and repair of various structures and machinery.
  • Pipe Fitter: Pipe fitters install and repair systems of pipes that carry water, steam, or other liquids and gases. They work on everything from simple plumbing to complex industrial piping systems.

All these positions fall under the reference number APPRE 2026.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

To be considered for the apprenticeship, applicants must meet at least one of the following educational criteria:

  • Technical Grade 12: A Grade 12 certificate with a focus on Mathematics.
  • N2 Engineering Certificate: A full N2 Engineering Certificate, which includes four subjects, with relevant trade theory.
  • NQF Level 3 Equivalent: A technical trade theory program that has been quality assured by a SETA and is considered equivalent to NQF Level 3.
  • NC(V) Certificate: A relevant Engineering NC(V) Certificate with seven subjects at NQF Level 3.
  • Technical Grade 11: A Grade 11 certificate that includes Mathematics, Science, Language, and a related trade theory subject.

Prospective apprentices need to submit a complete application package, which includes:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): A detailed overview of your educational background, skills, and any previous work experience.
  • South African ID: A certified copy of your identity document.
  • Qualifications: Certified copies of all relevant educational certificates and transcripts.
  • Proof of Residence: Documentation confirming your current residential address.
